Babysitter's Training & When I'm In Charge

Babysitter's Training
Designed for youth ages 11 to 15, this six-hour Red Cross course is an interactive, multimedia, activity-based classroom program that provides information every babysitter should have and what parents expect.

Each student receives an informative Babysitter's handbook that provides information on injury prevention, first aid and basic child care skills. Participants have an excellent opportunity to build self confidence and apply decision-making skills. Successful participants earn a Red Cross Babysitting certificate. Students must be 11 years old by the time the course ends to be eligible to receive completion certificate. Some babysitting supplies are available for sale at the class. Make sure to bring paper, a pencil and lunch or snack.

The Red Cross fee is about $39.00 per student although sites may charge an additional fee and/or out of district fees/assessments. When I'm in Charge - WIIC
Designed for youth ages 8 to 11, this two-and-a-half-hour Red Cross course prepares children to respond safely to a variety of situations when direct parent supervision is unavailable. Participants will:

• Role Play answering phone and door situations
• Discuss gun and Internet safety
• Discuss personal safety and first aid situations

The Red Cross fee for this course is $18 per child, but because fees and registration procedures differ at each location, please call the site to enroll. Each student receives a participation guide, note pads and an emergency phone list blank. Parents are encouraged to attend the final half-hour of the class to watch the safety video and participate in the final class activity with their child(ren). If this class is held after school, parents should send a snack with their child.
