Holocaust Tracing
As part of its international mission, the American Red Cross can
help the thousands of Americans still seeking information about
loved ones missing since the Holocaust and World War II.
In 1989, the Soviet Union released documents from Auschwitz and
other camps to the International Committee of the Red Cross. This
cache of documents, which included 46 death books and thousands
of names, provided the single largest source of information made
available since the end of World War II.
Red Cross can link a local person making a tracing request with
the tracing resources of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent
Movement. During the last decade, American Red Cross has assisted
with more than 24,000 inquiries from individuals seeking information
about loved ones missing since the Holocaust and World War II.
