Red Cross Deploys Volunteers to Midwest Floods

PORTLAND, Ore. – July 3, 2007–The American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter has deployed three volunteers to assist with the flood relief efforts in Oklahoma and Texas.

Hundreds of people have been affected in Oklahoma, Southeast Kansas, and North Texas where many have evacuated due to flooding caused by weeks of consistent rain and thunderstorms.  The Red Cross has set up 18 shelters throughout the affected area.

Volunteers from the Oregon Trail Chapter will be assisting with transportation, community relations, and client casework.

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare and respond to emergencies. Oregon Trail Chapter Red Cross volunteers respond to residential fires and other disasters every 40 hours on average. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians.
