More Local Red Cross Volunteers Called to Respond to Nor’easter

18 Oregon Trail Chapter volunteers now on their way

PORTLAND, Ore. – April 20, 2007 – Seven more local American Red Cross volunteers are leaving today and this weekend to provide food, shelter and comfort to residents of the Mid-Atlantic and New England, bringing the total to 18 now deployed from the Oregon Trail Chapter.

The trained and ready volunteers—from nine different cities in the area—have committed to a three week assignment after only 24 to 48 hours notice before their departure to the storm damaged communities. A Red Cross nurse has been assigned, and other volunteers will assist with client casework and sheltering, computer support, logistics, and distribution of badly needed supplies. Others will help at the local Red Cross Chapters in the affected states, and at the Red Cross area headquarters.

Red Cross chapters across the United States have been contacted by the national deployment system to send nearly 600 volunteers to assist in the areas damaged by the Nor’easter that caused heavy snow, extensive flooding and widespread power outages.
