Red Cross volunteers respond to victims
of lightning storm
PORTLAND, Ore. – June 20, 2005 – Volunteers
from the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter responded to
a family of eight in the Gresham area that were uniquely impacted
by last night’s thunderstorms.
Nicolas Morales and his family were sitting down for a Father’s
Day dinner, when lightning struck through a bedroom in his house,
starting a fire. The fire department arrived on the scene and
handled the blaze, but the event left Nicolas, his wife and
their two children, as well as four other family members without
shelter. The Red Cross, thanks to the generous support of Oregonians,
was able to step in and provide hotel accommodations, at no
charge.
