Red Cross Assists East Gresham Fire Victims
PORTLAND, Ore. – April 7, 2005 – Volunteers
from the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter assisted two
adults and two children after their home in east Gresham suffered
fire damage early Thursday morning.
The fire started at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the victim’s
duplex and the Gresham Fire Department responded to the call.
The affected unit housed two families, each having one adult
and one child. Two Oregon Trail Chapter volunteers met with
the residents at the scene later on Thursday to provide cash
assistance for immediate needs such as meals, and clothing.
Red Cross caseworkers will meet with the families in the coming
days to determine their long-range recovery and housing needs.
One adult and one child were home at the time of the fire and
the young child – approximately three years old, heard
the fire alarm and alerted the adult so they could evacuate.
The assistance is offered at no charge to Red Cross disaster clients,
who are served thanks to the generosity of Oregonians supporting
the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter.
