Valley Theatre Helps Raise Money for Tsunami Relief
Proceeds from the day go to the American Red Cross International Response Fund

PORTLAND, Ore. – January 24, 2005 – Valley Theatre in Beaverton is hosting a day of activities for families to support disaster relief in South Asia. 100 percent of the day’s profits will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.

The Valley Theatre lobby opens on January 26 at 2:00 p.m. and will remain open until 10:00 p.m. Face painters, magicians, balloon animal artists and characters from Scream at the Beach will provide entertainment. For movie show times, visit www.valley-theatre.com or call (503) 29-MOVIE. Other businesses participating include: McDonalds, Valley Bowl Bowling Alley, Mocha Roma's, Pizza Schmizza, and Togo's Eatery.

Donations to the Red Cross support the largest, most established humanitarian organization in the world. With 97 million emergency workers and volunteers around the globe, the Red Cross is pre-positioned to provide immediate relief when disasters strike.

Individuals, businesses, schools and organizations have pledged more than $213 million to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, with the Oregon Trail Chapter contributing more than $220,000 in local donations. The American Red Cross estimates that it will spend approximately $400 million providing immediate and long term relief to the areas affected by the December 26th tsunami.

Donations to the American Red Cross International Response Fund support five key areas: food and safe water; health care and disease prevention; immediate family supplies; mental health counseling; and disaster preparedness and prevention measures.
