Red Cross Assists Families in Two Portland-Area
Fires
Portland, Ore. – July 12, 2004 –
Volunteers from the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter assisted
twenty individuals at two separate fires in the Portland area
Sunday evening.
Lake Oswego Fire Department contacted the Red Cross at 6:25 p.m.
to respond to a three-alarm fire at The Gables at Mountain Park
apartment complex off Jefferson Parkway in Lake Oswego. Disaster
action team (DAT) volunteers arrived on the scene to assist the
families affected by the fire, which destroyed two apartments
and heavily damaged a third. Seven other apartments had smoke
and water damage.
Other Red Cross responders on their way to the fire in Lake Oswego
were diverted to another residential fire on NE Fremont Street
in Portland, where they assisted four families. Six volunteers
remained on the fire scenes past 11:00 p.m. to provide support.
The Red Cross provided lodging, meals, clothing and emotional
support for the affected residents. This assistance is provided
at no charge to Red Cross disaster clients, who are served thanks
to the generosity of Oregonians supporting the Oregon Trail Chapter.
