Red Cross Assists Families Facing Apartment
Fire
PORTLAND, Ore. – December 19, 2004 –
American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter volunteers responded
to assist individuals and families displaced by a two-alarm
fire early Sunday morning at the Sorrento View Apartments on
SW Conestoga Drive in Beaverton. Tualatin Valley Fire &
Rescue crews responded with assistance from the Portland and
Lake Oswego Fire Bureau’s and extinguished the fire.
The fire started at approximately 3:00 a.m. and affected four
units. Three of the units were occupied and suffered major damage.
Seven adults and two children were displaced by the fire. Disaster
action team volunteers and disaster health volunteers from the
Oregon Trail Chapter arrived at the scene to aid the families.
A Red Cross volunteer nurse assisted one fire victim that needed
minor medical assistance.
The first priority was to assist with the immediate emergency
needs, such as food, clothing, medications and shelter. Red
Cross emergency service case workers will then meet with the
families to determine their long-range recovery needs.
The assistance is offered at no charge to Red Cross disaster
clients, who are served thanks to the generosity of Oregonians
supporting the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter.
