Red Cross Responds to Apartment Fire
PORTLAND, Ore.—June 26, 2003—American Red Cross Oregon
Trail Chapter volunteers went to Aloha last night to assist a
woman who was informed earlier in the day that her apartment caught
fire while she was at work.
The manager of the apartment located on SW Shaw called the Red
Cross for assistance. Volunteers arrived in Aloha at around 9:30
p.m. and returned to their homes close to midnight. They provided
vouchers for lodging, food and clothing for the resident of the
affected apartment.
On average, the Oregon Trail Chapter responds to multiple residential
fires during the course of a week. Calls for assistance may come
in at any hour of the day and Red Cross volunteers are ready to
help individuals and families displaced by fire. “Our volunteers
are busy responding to residential fires that occur frequently
in our area,” said Red Cross volunteer Jan Stennick. “We
are also still working with families affected by the Canyon Plaza
apartment fire in Beaverton as they continue to assess their needs
and take steps toward recovering from the incident.”
This assistance was offered at no charge to Red Cross disaster
clients, who are served thanks to the generosity of Oregonians
supporting the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross.
