JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

Position Title: Health and Safety, Youth & Community Services Instructor (HSYCS Instructor or Bilingual Instructor)

Reports to: HSYCS Instructor Supervisor

Status: Non-Exempt


Basic Function: Conducts American Red Cross Health and Safety, Youth and Community Services (HSYCS) courses at the Red Cross Training Center and various sites within the Oregon Trail Chapter service delivery area, including businesses and general public settings.

Essential Functions:

  1. Instructs American Red Cross HSYCS courses in accordance with National American Red Cross and Oregon Trail Chapter guidelines, standards and customer expectations.
  2. Instructs a minimum of 32 hours per month; with the exception if courses are not available or instructor is not authorized to teach available courses.
  3. Contacts HSYCS monthly to schedule hours of instruction.
  4. Contacts assigned sites to confirm class information a minimum of three (3) work days prior to class date.
  5. Transports all course equipment and materials, following HSYCS supply room procedures.
  6. Completes and returns all required course paperwork within 48 business hours.
  7. Promotes and supports HSYCS financial goals in product and emergency preparedness sales.
  8. Meets minimum continuing education requirements of two in-service workshops per year, and participates in additional meetings and workshops as requested.
  9. Promotes and represents the mission of the American Red Cross and the Oregon Trail Chapter to all class participants and customers.
  10. Participates as a team member of HSYCS to achieve departmental training goals.

Qualifications:

(The minimum level of education and experience required to perform the job and minimum competencies required for job performance.)
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Combination of education, experience and training that indicates skills and abilities in the instruction of health, safety, youth and community services courses.
  • Successful completion of American Red Cross Instructor Course.
  • Posses excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills in English or fluent in English AND Spanish.
  • Ability to transport training equipment.
  • Successful passing of initial and subsequent finger-print criminal history reviews.

Mental / Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment/classroom supplies, weighing up to 40 pounds, from supply room to vehicle and vehicle to course site with varying accessibility.
  • Meet the physical demands of course instruction, which may include skill demonstration, bending and kneeling.
  • Must be able to follow specific detailed instructions on course delivery.
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
