Position description:
Outreach Coordinator
Supporting Rural Communities Project

Serve a one year assignment as an Outreach Coordinator with the American Red Cross Supporting Rural Communities. We are seeking an AmeriCorps*VISTA member to provide indirect service by capacity building and coordination of Emergency Services to families and individuals in our rural communities. Through prevention, preparation and planning your focus will be to lessen the likelihood of poverty after a disaster.

Benefits of this position:
Education award of $4725.00 through the AmeriCorps*VISTA program. Use of laptop computer with wireless internet access, cell phone and pager. Paid lunch when working in the Chapter offices. Use of Chapter vehicles while on project assignments. Subsidized public transportation passes and discounted gym membership also available.

Summary of Position:
The Emergency Services Outreach Coordinator will collaborate with Oregon Trail Chapter Emergency Services staff and volunteer leadership to recruit volunteers and design support activities for rural disaster responders

Primary Responsibilities:

  • One year Commitment to the Supporting Rural Communities Project
  • Based in Portland Oregon, coordinate services to the rural communities of the Oregon Trail Chapter, including Columbia, Tillamook, Clackamas, Yamhill and Clatsop counties.
  • Assess the needs of assigned communities and design volunteer recruitment strategies to develop volunteer disaster response resources.
  • Track volunteer information in the Learning Management System (LMS) and ACCESS databases.
  • Collaborate with rural volunteer leadership to ensure volunteer support, training and recognition.
  • Assess rural volunteer training needs and schedule and support disaster classes; including coordinating instructor assignments, training materials and audio/visual equipment.
  • Complete and submit all AmeriCorps required reports and timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Attend AmeriCorps sponsored orientation, trainings, meetings and disaster response.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or related experience.
  • Independent, self-motivated, creative and resourceful individual who enjoys leading diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to travel 25 percent.
  • Desire and ability to recruit and supervise volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability in basic computer, (i.e. Microsoft Office) internet, email and database skills.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • A cooperative manner and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • A willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion.
  • Adhere to standards for Red Cross identification and professional attire.
  • Willingness to support Red Cross Mission.
  • Comply with Chapter and American Red Cross policies and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Oregon Trail Chapter Emergency Services Training and Outreach Specialist
