About Ming X. Wei
A well-known artist from Guilin, China, Ming Wei expresses his love of nature and the beauty of the earth in his paintings which are done in a unique Chinese watercolor style. The show displays his visionary landscapes, classic scenes of flowers, birds and animals. Wei studied at the Guilin Academy of Fine Arts and graduated from the college of Le Nian, Guangxi Province Teachers University, majoring in Chinese Brush Paintings.

His art has been shown at many exhibits in Guilin, China. His master pieces also can be found at Gallery of International, Village Gallery of Arts, and La Zhu, Arts and Antiques of Asia in the Beaverton and Portland areas in Oregon.

Artist's Statement:
I have always been excited by the outdoor countryside of Guilin, the Yellow Mountain and the Yangtze River areas in China, and the Pacific Northwest area of the United States. Over the last 10 years, I have been exploring the “outback” of China and U.S., and recording my impressions with watercolor paintings as a means of communicating their uniqueness and beauties.

Some of my paintings are completed on site. Some are completed in my studio from sketches made on site or from photographs taken on site. By combing diverse elements, such as light, shadow, color, human warmth and imagination, I try to create an accessible universe expressing harmony between nature and human beings.

I hope my paintings will stimulate interests or revive memories in the viewers so much that they will enjoy them as I have enjoyed the experience of visiting and painting these places.

Featured Art:
Chinese Title of Painting: Shan Xia Feng Guang
(Shan XIA are the most famous 3 gorges along the Yangtze River ; Feng Guang means scenery.)

Art Media: Watercolor on Rice Paper

This painting is about the narrowest point of the Yangtze River Gorge, located in the Province of SiChuan .  The energy can be felt from the steep gorges and roaring water.  You wonder the fate of the little boat...

Mr. Wei is very witty and funny.  He painted one little temple on the top of the gorge and a little farm house on the lower rock.  He wants to tell everyone not to worry because no matter how treacherous nature is, people can always make peace with it.
